Akshay Kumar’s ‘Prithviraj’ is Inspired by Epic Poem Prithviraj Raso

Prithviraj is based on the life and heroism of the fearless and mighty King Prithviraj Chauhan.

Filmmaker Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who has previously directed Pinjar, Mohalla Assi, and TV show Chanakya, is currently busy with his next, Prithviraj, starring Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar and on World Book Day, he reveals how an epic Prithviraj Raso is the inspiration behind this much-awaited historical. “Prithviraj is also based mainly on medieval literature, an epic called ‘Prithviraj Raso’ by the great poet Chand Bardai. Apart from a couple of versions of Raso, there are many other literary works on Prithviraj, his life, and times. In addition to these there are commentaries on Raso,” Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi reveals.

Dwivedi says that for Prithviraj he had to deep dive into exhaustive research on the warrior king. He says, “I get involved in exhaustive research as I enjoy the process of entering the unknown and unexplored world of great heroes of India and their times. It is like having a dialogue with these great characters in their times. I am sure most of the writers must have experienced this strange phenomenon.

He adds, “Apart from the story, I love to research art, archaeology, costumes, material culture and available historical data. In other words, I love to do archaeological exploration and excavation in the pages of a literary work or historical fiction to recreate the era and personalities of its time. This gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction as an artist who loves to paint cinema’s canvas with lights and camera.

The film-maker believes that the stories of great warriors like Prithviraj are extremely relevant in today’s times where good is constantly locked in a battle with evil. He says, “I do not make characters like Prithviraj to make them relevant for young viewers. I choose them as my subject for cinema as they are relevant for our times and all times to come. They are shining bright stars in the galaxy of great historical characters which will inspire many generations to come.

Yash Raj Films is making its biggest historical in Prithviraj which is based on the life and heroism of the fearless and mighty King Prithviraj Chauhan. Akshay Kumar is essaying the role of the legendary warrior who fought valiantly against the merciless Muhammad of Ghor. Manushi plays the role of his beloved Sanyogita.

Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivi postponed after surge in coronavirus cases; trilingual film not to release on 23 April

In a statement posted on Twitter, production house Zee Studios said the team has decided to push the release as people’s safety is their priority.

Mumbai: The makers of actor Kangana Ranaut-led Thalaivi on 9 April announced they have deferred the release of the film due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in India.

The multilingual biographical film about the life of J Jayalalithaa, former Tamil Nadu CM and actor, was gearing to release theatrically on 23 April.

In a statement posted on Twitter, production house Zee Studios said the team has decided to push the release as people’s safety is their priority.

Since the film has been made in multiple languages, we would like to release it in all languages on the same day.

“But with an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, subsequent precautions and lockdowns, even though our film is ready for release on 23rd April, we want to extend all the support towards the government rules and regulations and have decided to postpone release of Thalaivi,” the statement read.

Directed by Vijay and written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, Thalaivi also stars Arvind Swami, Madhoo, Prakash Raj, Jisshu Sengupta, Bhagyashree, and Poorna.

Earlier this week, the makers of Akshay Kumar-starrer Sooryavanshi also announced that the cop drama has been pushed and will not release on April 30 due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

India registered a record single-day spike of 1,31,968 new COVID-19 cases on 9 April, pushing its infection tally to 1,30,60,542, while the death toll increased to 1,67,642 with 780 more fatalities in a day.

Abhishek Banerjee on Netflix anthology Ajeeb Daastaans: ‘Took time to accept that this was happening at Dharma

Banerjee, known for his scene-stealing acts in movies and shows such as Pataal Lok, Stree, Mirzapur and Bala, said the film was different from the ones that have come out of Dharma, which is primarily known for its love stories and family dramas.

New Delhi: Actor Abhishek Banerjee, who features in the Khilauna segment of the upcoming Netflix anthology Ajeeb Daastaans, says he initially could not believe that the movie was being made by Dharma Productions.

The film, which features four shorts from filmmakers Neeraj Ghaywan, Kayoze Irani, Shashank Khaitan and Raj Mehta, is the latest anthology to come out of Dharmatic, the digital content company of Karan Johar-led Dharma Productions.

The movie, as its title suggests, is about the third wheel in relationships and explores complex themes of fractured relationships, and human emotions such as jealousy, entitlement, prejudices and toxicity, and their effects.

Banerjee, known for his scene-stealing acts in movies and shows such as Pataal Lok, Stree, Mirzapur and Bala, said the film was different from the ones that have come out of Dharma, which is primarily known for its love stories and family dramas.

“It took me a little time to accept the fact that this was happening at Dharma. Because you have a very different image about the production house and also the director… Suddenly you reach the set and realise that it is actually being made. So in the process of the film, I realised what we are making and I thoroughly enjoyed the journey,” the 35-year-old actor said.

Raat Baaki Hai movie review: Annup Sonii, Paoli Dam’s ZEE5 film confuses vagueness for intrigue

Paoli Dam walking down a staircase of a palatial haveli in a perfectly draped sari, somewhere in Rajasthan (the film doesn’t bother with specifics), might make for an intriguing start to a whodunnit. Dam, who was the best thing about Anvita Dutt’s Bulbbul, uses her deceptive presence to a similar effect here in Avinash Das’s Raat Baaki Hai. However, the final impact is far from what one might expect. Or depending on your opinion of Zee5, barely surprising. Not for her own fault, Dam’s character, Vasuki, is infuriatingly simple. Having made a career out of playing the Tagore-ian character, who mopes and pines at the dressing table while looking like a million bucks, Dam’s eeriness is short-changed in the Zee5 film. Using her soft voice to cajole the leading man, Kartik (Annup Sonni, the numerology evidently not working for him) into dropping his guard, the film would have worked significantly better if it dug deep with Dam’s character. Instead, it takes the easy way out and plays out like a conventional murder mystery, where murders look awfully synthetic, and the mystery barely makes it past the first act.

A Bollywood star, Vaani Kapoor (Dipannita Sharma), also referred to as Vaani Chopra at one point, is found murdered in a hotel room. She had gotten engaged to her beau, Kartik, only a few hours earlier. Kartik we’re told, is a writer. Anyone familiar with the hierarchy in the film industry, understands the natural conflict here between an A-list actor and a lowly writer, a conflict that the makers don’t seem interested in. Rahul Dev is tasked with the role of a greasy investigator, who uses all his interrogation scenes to showcase his deadpan face. Dev’s Rajasthani-afflicted delivery isn’t consistent, but there are simple pleasures in hearing the expletives roll out of his tongue. Following up on the acts of the likes of a Jaideep Ahlawat and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Dev is understandably below par. His detective abilities are also questionable, considering how he fixates on a producer attending the engagement, instead of looking for Kartik, who seems to be fleeing from the scene.

The flashbacks in the film are lazily expository, only to colour the characters in shades of doubt. The final ‘reveal’ is incredibly facile too, something most viewers will see from a mile away. The vapid, leftover royalty of Rajasthan has been an interesting and recurring trope in recent films and the OTT space, especially in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Sahib, Biwi Aur Gangster franchise, and also in last year’s Aarya.

It’s no coincidence then, that Avinash Das’s film looks like a derivative version of Raat Akeli Hai, a film that also borrowed its title from a popular Hindi song, much like Avinash Das’s film. It’s an oft repeated pattern in recent films, like when the makers of Malang went out of their way to pay homage to ‘Aaj Ki Raat Koi Aane Ko Hai’  from 1982’s Anamika, via Anil Kapoor’s character. Directors probably think these add a bit of retro cool to the films. One fails to understand it is if they do go through the trouble to doff their hats to an era behind us, then why can’t they also write a story worthy of being a tribute to that era?

The only decent thing about Avinash Das’s Raat Baaki Hai, is its run-time at 89 minutes. At least, it ensures that we’re not wasting more than 89 minutes on such a basic ‘mystery’. The last half hour is particularly painful to endure, when the whodunnit suddenly morphs into ‘Here-is-why-I-did-it’. Characters go to great lengths to explain how they ‘chanced upon’ (not very subtly) the most bizarre clues, and what their motivations behind the murders REALLY are. The plot-points here are so contrived, that you can see smudges of the screenwriter’s ink, putting four and four together to make it 44.

Das started out promisingly as a filmmaker with Anarkali of Aarah, and after that, he’s been at the helm of Netflix’s She and this wreckage. Raat Baaki Hai is the kind of film where someone changes into black turtlenecks, black trousers and black boots before going out to murder someone. It’s the only moment when the film woke me up, and drew a laugh out of me. Alas! There aren’t even enough of those.

However, in a new interview with ETimes, Rubina cleared the air regarding her arc. She explained that her character in the show Saumya decides to become the guardian of a 6-year-old child in the show. However, she had quit the show when the makers had decided to implement a giant leap in the storyline, where the child would be a 25 year-old grownup.

She said that she didn’t mind playing a 50-year-old character, but wanted to be in the driver’s seat. She said that she person who likes to take the entire responsibility of the show, and with the leap she would be in the adjacent seat, which would not be sufficiently challenging for her.

The actress said that she has re-joined the show because her character’s arc is exactly as she wanted. “Now I have something exactly the way I had envisaged. That time around, the concentration was perhaps on the big leap they were taking. Jis soch ko lekar I had left the show, ussi soch ko respect karte the makers have got me back (The makers have brought me back respecting the reason why I left the show). I am very excited about my return. I have adopted my baby again. And let me tell you that it’s not just for 3/4 episodes; it’s going to be sufficiently long,” she said.

In fact, I called Vivian after signing up that I am coming back on Shakti- Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki. But all said and done, it has been a pure homecoming,’ she said.

Rakhi Sawant Comes to Paparazzi’s Rescue, Her Videos Earn More Views Than Gym, Airport Looks

With gyms, red carpet events, and award functions out of bounds for Bollywood stars amid the second wave of Covid-19, celebrity photographers in Mumbai are struggling to come up with newer ways to keep their followers happy. Viral Bhayani, a popular pap photographer, says that it’s a repeat of the 2020 situation, adding that the demand for the regular gym and airport pictures has gone down lately. “Just the stepping-out content itself isn’t very interesting for people. They want engaging content, conversations about current issues,” Viral told Hindustan Times.

“Our main work is movie promotions, red carpet events, which magazines and channels look forward to. That helps us, but there were hardly any film promotions, no big-ticket events like fashion weeks,” another paparazzi Manav Manglani said.

However, Viral further says that it’s Bigg Boss 14 fame Rakhi Sawant whose videos are generating a lot of traction on his Instagram page as she talks about “everything under the sun”, from the government to other current issues.

She has become my number one content provider, financially and views-wise also. You might be the best actor, but if you shy away and get into your car, what attitude is that? People don’t like that now,” Viral added.

Even after Bigg Boss 14, where she became one of the finalists, Rakhi Sawant continues to entertain her fans and followers. Rakhi is often spotted out and about in Mumbai by paparazzi and she entertains them with her usual antics. Post Bigg Boss, the actress got busy with her mother’s chemo treatment at a Mumbai hospital. Thereafter, Rakhi has done a few performances for special television shows and hosted an event in Goa as well.

IPL 2021 Fantasy: Punjab Kings vs SunRisers Hyderabad, Top Picks

IPL 2021: The likes of KL Rahul, David Warner, Chris Gayle and Rashid Khan among others will be in action on Wednesday and they bring with them plenty of points in fantasy cricket.

Punjab Kings take on SunRisers Hyderabad in Match 14 of Indian Premier League at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Several T20 heavyweights including KL Rahul, David Warner, Chris Gayle, Rashid Khan and Nicholas Pooran among others are set to take the field yet again as both teams look to climb from the bottom half of the table to the top half. SRH are yet to register a win in the season and lie at the bottom in the points table. PBKS are better-placed than SRH but only just as they occupy seventh position with one win out of three matches. Nevertheless, for fantasy cricket fans this match brings yet another opportunity to score points with clever selections.

Here are the top picks for fantasy teams ahead of PBKS vs SRH

Jonny Bairstow (Credits – 9.5): At 9.5 credits, Jonny Bairstow is a good choice among wicket-keepers as he comes at a lower price than KL Rahul (10.5). Bairstow has returned scores of 43, 12 and 55 in the tournament thus far and he bats at a healthy clip at the top of the order with David Warner. He has fetched 173 fantasy points already.

Mayank Agarwal (Credits – 9): Mayank Agarwal gained some form in the last match, scoring 69 runs and adding 122 with KL Rahul for the first wicket. Agarwal had a good IPL 2020 and after two low scores this season, he seems to have hit the right notes with the bat. He could fetch yet more points than he did in the last match and add to his tally of 124 points.

Deepak Hooda (Credits – 8.5): The big-hitting Deepak Hooda played a cameo in Punjab Kings’ last outing that helped the team get close to 200. His 13-ball 22 not out had two sixes and together with Shahrukh Khan helped give the innings a final flourish. He has accumulated 177 points already and could be a valuable addition to a fantasy team.

Rashid Khan (Credits – 9.5): With bowlers from both sides struggling in the tournament, the experienced Rashid Khan is a safe bet even though he comes at a price. He has four wickets from three matches so far and he is only expected to add to the tally every game on pitches in Chennai that assist the spinners.

PBKS Vs SRH IPL 2021 Live Score: SunRisers Hyderabad Look To Open Account vs Punjab Kings

Match 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 will see Punjab Kings (PBKS) clash with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on Wednesday. Both PBKS and SRH have endured a dismal run in this year’s edition of the IPL as both are languishing at the bottom of the table. SRH is at the last position with three defeats in as many games, as David Warner’s side will be aiming for a fresh start to their journey this season. For KL Rahul-led PBKS, the story has been so close yet so far this IPL, having won only their opener against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by four runs. Both teams are expected to make crucial changes in their line-up in order to find the right balance going ahead in the tournament.

Good afternoon and welcome everyone!

Meanwhile, PBKS are seventh, and have only registered one win in three games

IPL 2021, PBKS vs SRH: SunRisers Hyderabad Players To Watch Out For

PBKS vs SRH: SunRisers Hyderabad, quite in contrast to their name, are in the darkest corner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 edition, with three losses out of three pitching them at rock bottom.

SunRisers Hyderabad, even in their most pessimistic minute, would not have envisaged that they would none from three matches, at the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) points table. They seem to be seriously out of sorts, with skipper David Warner conjuring up so many ways to get out while the rest have not put up much of a fight, with bat or ball. But the benefit of a long league is that io provides every side with a long rope, waiting to see if they can clamber up the order, or hang themselves with it. While it is indeed a long league, SRH could run out of time if they don’t conjure up some points.

Here are some of the key players for SRH:

DAVID WARNER

Irrespective of how many runs SRH’s Australian skipper scores in any match, there is no denying that he is the fulcrum of SRH and needs to come good sooner rather than later if his team has to make it a good IPL, as it was in 2020.

Warner has scored 93 runs so far and while he has had a couple of half-decent knocks, including a half-century, the left-hander has not looked too convincing. Warner’s 54 off 37 balls had stretched Royal Challengers Bangalore but as has been SRH couldn’t seal a win.

JONNY BAIRSTOW

The Englishman needs to come good at the top of the order consistently. With Wriddhiman Saha not doing justice to the opener’s slot, Bairstow will surely be the lynchpin at the position, not to mention his additional role as the wicketkeeper.

Bairstow has so far scored 110 runs for SRH, up and down the order, but since his slot has got cemented at the top, he can now focus on the job at hand and the franchise desperately needs him to come good.

RASHID KHAN

Listen to the latest songs, only on JioSaavn.com

It’s rare to see the Afghan leg-spinner outside the top ten wicket-takers’ list but Rashid Khan if off that ladder board, for now at least. Four wickets from three matches is rather modest haul for him, but an economy of 5.33 is right up there.

Rashid could be a key bowler for SRH, since as the tournament progresses, it is pretty clear that spin will be critical to every side’s fortune and especially wrist spinners will be key. Rashid has his task cut out, with his side scraping the bottom of the barrel as of now.
